Medical Director in Calgary: find one, or become one.

In Calgary a nurse injector or med spa needs a physician or Nurse Practitioner to assess each client and issue a client-specific order, and that prescriber does not have to be on the premises. Plus One MD introduces Calgary practices to verified Medical Directors. Right now Calgary has more practices asking than directors to introduce them to, so this page is for both sides.

Physicians and NPs in Calgary: this is where we are short

If you are registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta or, as a Nurse Practitioner, with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta, you can provide medical direction to an aesthetic practice within your scope and competence. The work is assessing clients, issuing client-specific orders, keeping protocols current, reviewing charts and being reachable for complications. It is described in full in what a Medical Director does.

Calgary is the centre of southern Alberta, and because the prescriber can be remote, a director based here is not limited to the city. These communities are all within reach:

  • Airdrie, Cochrane, Chestermere and Okotoks, all within about half an hour.
  • Canmore and Banff, roughly an hour to an hour and a half west.
  • Red Deer, about an hour and a half north, halfway to Edmonton.
  • Lethbridge, about two hours south, and Medicine Hat, about three hours east.

Some practices want a director who can visit in person now and then. If you are willing to, the list above is the realistic range. If you are not, say so and we will only introduce practices that are comfortable with a fully remote arrangement. Alberta is a province we are still building, so tell us now: requests are matched as directors join, and a director who joins in Calgary is introduced to the Calgary practices already waiting. Before you sign with anyone, run them through the vetting checklist.

The Alberta rules in one paragraph

A physician or an NP can be the authorizing prescriber. The prescriber can be remote. Every client needs a genuine assessment and their own order, and a standing order with nobody assessing the individual is not enough. More detail: Medical Directors in Alberta and the rules by province.
